Description

TECNODEC Turntable

supplied with Rega arm plate.

ENTRY LEVEL REFERENCE TURNTABLE

The TecnoDec is Michell's entry-level turntable, and shares many features developed for its bigger sibling, the GyroDec, such as the vibration dampening, impedance-matched platter, inverted oil circulating main bearing and a free-standing motor unit.

TecnoDec is an unsuspended turntable that utilises materials and technologies not normally found in entry level turntables, allowing you hear much more from your music.

FEATURES

Pure Sorbothane feet inserts.

Designed to isolate the turntable from structural vibration in the supporting surface.

Impedance-matched platter.

The platter material was chosen for its vibration dampening characteristics and because sonically it is a very similar material to vinyl, so it has a very neutral sound characteristic.

Free standing motor unit.

Machined from a solid billet of aircraft grade aluminium, the turntable motor unit is designed to minimise any transfer of tiny vibrations created when the motor is running, to the sensitive parts of the turntable. When in operation the only connection between the motor and the rest of the turntable, is the drive belt turning the platter. This innovation lifts the performance of the TecnoDec and sets it apart from the competition.

Inverted oil circulating main bearing.

Contrary to traditional designs, our main bearing has the point of rotation at the top of the assembly, not at the bottom. This orientation allows us to fully lubricate the inside of the entire bearing while the platter is turning. We achieve this by way of a modified Archimedean screw that we machine into the inside bore of the bearing. The oil is drawn from a reservoir at the base of the main bearing up to the thrust ball at the top, fully lubricating as it goes, it then returns to the reservoir via a waste hole drilled into the bearing spindle. Lubricating the precision parts of the main bearing in this way means that any potential for noise or vibration created by the rotation of the platter is avoided.

Why Choose Michell

Michell Engineering is one of the most respected and enduring names in British analogue audio, renowned for producing precision-engineered turntables that combine mechanical excellence, long-term reliability, and timeless industrial design. Founded by the late John Michell in the United Kingdom, Michell turntables have become iconic within the analogue world through their distinctive suspended designs, meticulous machining quality, and deeply refined musical presentation.

What makes Michell particularly distinctive is the company’s unwavering commitment to engineering integrity and upgrade longevity. Rather than constantly reinventing products with short-term model cycles, Michell designs evolve carefully over decades, allowing customers to progressively refine and improve their turntables over time while maintaining the core platform itself. This long-term philosophy has helped establish Michell turntables as genuine lifetime analogue products.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, Michell turntables consistently appeal to listeners seeking analogue playback that combines precision, musicality, and beautifully executed engineering. There is a sense of stability, refinement, and natural flow to the presentation that allows records to sound spacious, coherent, and deeply engaging over long listening sessions.

Signature Design and Sound

Manufactured in the United Kingdom, Michell turntables are engineered around carefully controlled suspended chassis systems, precision-machined bearing assemblies, sophisticated motor isolation, and low-resonance acrylic and metal structures designed to minimise unwanted vibration throughout playback.

One of the defining characteristics of Michell designs is the company’s focus on rotational stability and mechanical isolation. The suspended sub-chassis architecture helps isolate the platter and tonearm system from environmental vibration while maintaining excellent timing stability and tonal coherence. Combined with highly refined bearing systems and carefully decoupled motor arrangements, the result is a remarkably quiet and composed playback platform.

The GyroDec in particular has become one of the most recognisable and admired turntables in high-end audio, both visually and sonically. Its iconic weighted pendulum-style platter design and suspended architecture have earned it a near-legendary status amongst analogue enthusiasts worldwide. The Orbe series further expands upon this philosophy through additional mass, isolation refinement, and increased low-frequency authority.

Sonically, Michell turntables are known for their balance, refinement, and highly natural musical presentation. Music feels fluid, spacious, and rhythmically coherent, with excellent image stability and impressive low-level detail retrieval. Rather than sounding overtly romantic or excessively analytical, Michell designs maintain a beautifully judged balance between precision and musical engagement.

Michell Product Range

The Michell Engineering range available through HeyNow Hi-Fi includes the GyroDec, Orbe, TecnoDec, matching tonearms, power supply upgrades, record clamps, and analogue accessories designed for serious long-term vinyl playback systems.

One of the strengths of the Michell ecosystem is its extensive upgrade path philosophy. Customers can progressively improve power supplies, suspension systems, platters, armboards, and tonearm configurations over time while maintaining the integrity of the core platform. This modular approach has helped Michell products remain relevant and highly respected across multiple generations of analogue enthusiasts.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, Geoff and his experienced analogue setup team provide cartridge installation, tonearm calibration, suspension optimisation, analogue system matching, and complete setup services to ensure Michell turntables perform at their full capability within each customer’s vinyl playback system.
