Description

DDRC-22D

The Dirac Series of 24/96 high-resolution audio processors with Dirac Live® are designed to fit into an existing system with minimum disruption, yet with the flexibility to allow for new and more cost-effective system configurations. The DDRC-22D interfaces via digital signals — AES-EBU on balanced XLR; coax/SPDIF on RCA, and optical/TOSLINK. The digital input source can be selected via the front panel or remote control, and all digital outputs are simultaneously active. The DDRC-22D can be simply inserted into the digital signal path of an existing system, or the on-board volume control used to simplify system configuration. Examples:

  • Between one or more digital sources and a DAC
  • Between one or more digital sources and active loudspeakers with digital input
  • Anywhere in the digital signal chain

Features

  • Processor: 32-bit floating-point Analog Devices SHARC DSP
  • Dirac V3.0 Compatible
  • Input/output resolution: 24 bits
  • Maximum input sample rate: 216 kHz
  • Internal operating sample rate: 96 kHz
  • Output sample rate: 96 kHz
  • Supports for Dirac Live 3.x

What's in the box?

  • Dirac Series 24/96 high-resolution audio processor — DDRC-22D
  • Universal 5 VDC power supply with interchangeable plugs (UK/EU/US/AU)
  • License for Dirac Live Calibration Tool Stereo for miniDSP (Win/Mac)
  • USB cables for Dirac Series audio processor and UMIK-1
  • UMIK-1 calibrated measurement microphone (Option)
  • Microphone tripod stand (Option)

NOTE: The UMIK-1/2 are measurement microphones approved by Dirac Research. Knowing the major effect a wrong calibration/measurement would have on the final results of Dirac Live tuning, we strongly recommend that you select a UMIK-1/2 microphone together with your platform for a plug&play experience leading to best results. Any issues related to 3rd party microphones such as ASIO/USB audio driver incompatibility/Latency problems or incorrect calibration process will not be under our support structure by our support team.

Why Choose miniDSP

miniDSP is a specialist digital audio manufacturer focused on DSP processing, room correction, active crossover systems, and acoustic optimisation tools designed to help customers extract dramatically better performance from their existing audio systems. Rather than approaching Hi-Fi purely through component replacement, miniDSP products focus on understanding and improving the interaction between loudspeakers, subwoofers, and the listening room itself.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, miniDSP products have become extremely valuable tools for solving real-world acoustic and integration problems across stereo, home theatre, and even car audio systems. In many environments, room behaviour and speaker integration have a far greater influence on overall sound quality than many equipment upgrades alone.

Signature Design and Sound

The miniDSP UMIK-1 and UMIK-2 measurement microphones have become industry-standard tools for room measurement and acoustic analysis due to their ease of use, individual calibration files, and broad software compatibility. Both microphones integrate seamlessly with software platforms including REW (Room EQ Wizard), Dirac Live, Multi-Sub Optimizer (MSO), Open Sound Meter, and a wide range of acoustic analysis and DSP tuning software used in both home and automotive audio environments.

The UMIK-1 remains the most popular and widely recommended option for room correction and Hi-Fi setup work. It is affordable, extremely reliable, simple to use, and fully capable of delivering highly accurate measurements for REW analysis, Dirac Live calibration, subwoofer integration, and room optimisation. For most Hi-Fi and home theatre users, the UMIK-1 provides everything required to properly analyse and improve system performance. The microphone also works beautifully with Dirac-enabled products from brands including NAD together with advanced active loudspeaker systems such as Dutch & Dutch.

The UMIK-2 expands upon this platform through a larger capsule design, lower noise floor, 32-bit processing, ASIO driver support, and support for sample rates up to 192kHz. This makes the UMIK-2 particularly appealing for more advanced measurement work, lower-noise environments, speaker design, and higher-resolution acoustic analysis.

One of the strengths of both microphones is how approachable they make acoustic analysis. Combined with REW software, customers can visualise room modes, bass peaks and nulls, speaker timing, subwoofer integration, decay behaviour, and overall frequency response with remarkable precision, often revealing issues that would otherwise be extremely difficult to diagnose by ear alone.

The UMIK platform has also become increasingly popular within car audio tuning, where cabin acoustics and speaker positioning create extremely complex listening environments. Software platforms including REW, Open Sound Meter, TrueRTA, and manufacturer DSP software from brands such as Helix and Audison allow installers and enthusiasts to accurately measure cabin response, time alignment, crossover integration, and subwoofer performance within automotive systems.

miniDSP Product Range

Beyond the microphones themselves, miniDSP offers a wide range of DSP hardware platforms including the Flex series, SHD streaming processors, DDRC Dirac Live processors, and advanced subwoofer integration systems. These devices allow customers to apply the measurement data gathered through UMIK microphones into real-world DSP correction and acoustic optimisation.

Products such as the Flex and SHD platforms combine DSP processing, DAC functionality, streaming integration, crossover management, and Dirac Live room correction into highly flexible system-control devices capable of dramatically improving loudspeaker and room integration.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, Geoff and his experienced system setup team provide assistance with REW measurements, Dirac Live configuration, DSP integration, subwoofer optimisation, and complete acoustic setup to ensure miniDSP products are implemented effectively within each customer’s listening environment.
