Best for:

  • Vintage collectors wanting to safely play classic, pre-WWII 78 RPM shellac records without ruining standard vinyl needles.
  • Archival tracking needing to span wider historical grooves with a specialised, bonded 3.0 mil spherical diamond tip.
  • Oyster Series owners seeking instant plug-and-play installation on existing Rainier, Olympia, Moonstone, Wellfleet, or Amethyst bodies.
  • Mono transcription requiring high-pressure stability on older grooves via a heavy-duty aluminum cantilever that tracks up to 5.5 grams.
  • Dual-channel setups outputting a steady dual-mono audio single across two stereo channels from historical single-channel prints.

The Sumiko RS78 Replacement Stylus restores accurate tracking and clear musical detail to compatible cartridges. Designed for reliable vinyl playback, it helps preserve tonal balance, definition, and dynamic expression, making it a practical replacement for listeners looking to maintain consistent performance and enjoy their record collection with renewed clarity.

Description

The Sumiko RS 78 is a 78rpm mono stylus that can be used with select Sumiko Oyster Series MM cartridges - including the Rainier, Olympia, and Moonstone (all sold separately). It uses a 78-appropriate bonded 3mil spherical diamond with aluminum cantilever, and tracks between 4.0 to 5.5g with a recommended VTF of 5.0g. The RS 78 stylus tracks the grooves of a 78rpm record properly and reduces the risk of harm to your collection. When using RS 78 with any of the listed compatible cartridges, you'll hear one channel of musical information (mono) for the 78rpm record in both stereo channels.

Hand-Crafted in Japan: Like Sumiko's Oyster Series MM cartridges, the RS 78 stylus is crafted by hand in Yokohama, Japan with the finest materials that combine to deliver precision, quality, and performance.
