Description

WallyReference Combo Kit

SRA/VTA Measurement Device

  • The only tool that allows simple, quick and repeatable confirmation that the top surface of your cartridge is perfectly level in BOTH horizontal axes – front/back (SRA/VTA) & left/right (azimuth)

  • Changing tonearm height changes not only Stylus Rake Angle (SRA) but in many tonearms models also changes azimuth angle. WallyReference allows you to compensate for the effect.

  • On most tonearms, changing azimuth also changes SRA. WallyReference allows you to compensate for this and keep SRA/VTA constant.

  • An essential tool for finding the ideal SRA/VTA for your specific cartridge

  • Quickly and easily move your cartridge to other tonearms with the same ideal SRA/VTA and azimuth angles - No need for a second turntable or tonearm when you can setup all cartridge/tonearm parameters in 15-20 minutes

  • Includes personalized support from WAM Engineering

WHY DOES THE WALLYREFERENCE HAVE FIVE DIFFERENT BLADES?

Each of the five blades has a different function

  1. One Dual Axis Blade – A level headshell requires TWO axes to confirm a plane level to the record surface

  2. Two blades for tonearms with indirect azimuth mechanisms – If your tonearm has a straight armwand it is almost certainly an Indirect Azimuth tonearm.

    1. SRA/VTA Blade displays headshell angle on front/back axis independently of any tilt on the left/right (azimuth) axis.

    2. Azimuth Blade displays headshell angle on left/right axis independently of any tilt on the front/back (SRA/VTA) axis.

  3. Two blades for tonearms with true azimuth mechanisms – If your tonearm has a curved or angled armwand it is a True Azimuth tonearm. Tonearms with no azimuth adjustment mechanism at all are also True Azimuth tonearms.

    1. SRA/VTA Blade displays headshell angle on front/back axis independently of any tilt on the left/right (azimuth) axis.

    2. Azimuth Blade displays headshell angle on left/right axis independently of any tilt on the front/back (SRA/VTA) axis.

When you purchase a WallyReference, you choose Indirect Azimuth, True Azimuth or both in a combo set.

Azimuth Calibration Note: A solution for measuring azimuth angles on “free-rolling” unipivot tonearms is currently under development. “Free-rolling” unipivots (as opposed to unipivots designed with a rigid stabilizing mechanism) allow the pivot housing to rock atop the unipivot in a clockwise/ counterclockwise manner along the axis of the armwand.

Reviews

Mark H, England

The WallyReference arrived and I have successfully completed SRA adjustments on my SME V and Rega RB2000 tonearms. It actually took me longer to find a dropped cartridge screw than it did to make the changes with the WallyTool! The *genius* of these tools is the beautiful simplicity of their physical designs which are based on the thorough understanding of the desired results and their ease of use in achieving those goals.

Stereophile/Analogue Corner, Michael Fremer, 2021

The WallyReference is a 16mm-tall device that comes with shims. With the cartridge lowered, stylus sitting in the record groove (but turntable not turning!), use the “standup” height gauge supplied with the WallyReference to measure the distance from the record surface to the headshell’s lower surface. If the measured height is 16mm, you’re all set, but if it’s more (I can’t recall encountering a cartridge that was less), locate the appropriate shims (supplied) to make up the difference. Now, remove the cartridge and affix the WallyReference (with shims) to the headshell.

Why Choose WallyTools

In analogue playback, the quality of the setup is every bit as important as the quality of the turntable itself. Even exceptional turntables, tonearms, and cartridges can underperform when alignment, geometry, azimuth, tracking force, or stylus setup are not properly optimised. WallyTools was developed to address exactly this problem — bringing laboratory-level precision and repeatability to the process of turntable and cartridge calibration.

Founded by the late Wally Malewicz, one of the most respected analogue setup specialists in the world, WallyTools has become the benchmark setup platform used by serious analogue enthusiasts, reviewers, manufacturers, and professional installers internationally. Rather than relying on outdated alignment assumptions or improvised setup methods, WallyTools applies highly refined measurement and calibration techniques designed to optimise cartridge performance with extraordinary precision.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, the philosophy is simple: the way a turntable is set up is just as important as the hardware itself. The difference between a basic setup and a carefully calibrated analogue system can be substantial, affecting tracking accuracy, tonal balance, soundstage stability, distortion levels, and long-term stylus performance. WallyTools allows these critical adjustments to be performed with far greater consistency and accuracy than many traditional setup approaches.

Signature Design and Sound

WallyTools products are designed to remove guesswork from analogue setup. Through a highly developed range of precision alignment tools, gauges, measuring systems, and calibration platforms, WallyTools helps users accurately optimise cartridge geometry, azimuth, overhang, vertical tracking angle, anti-skate, and stylus alignment.

What makes the WallyTools approach particularly important is that analogue setup has evolved significantly over the years. Many traditional setup techniques and generic alignment tools simply do not offer the precision required to extract maximum performance from today’s highly sophisticated cartridges and tonearms. WallyTools was created specifically to modernise and refine this process using more advanced measurement principles and tighter tolerances.

For customers investing seriously in analogue playback, the WallyTools platform offers the opportunity to approach setup with the same level of precision used by industry professionals and experienced analogue specialists worldwide.

WallyTools Product Range

The WallyTools range includes precision cartridge alignment systems, stylus force gauges, azimuth calibration tools, setup microscopes, anti-skate optimisation tools, and advanced analogue measurement accessories developed for serious vinyl playback optimisation. Each tool is designed to help users achieve more accurate and repeatable setup results across a broad range of turntables, tonearms, and cartridge types.

Whether refining an existing analogue system or learning to set up a turntable properly for the first time, WallyTools provides a far more precise and informed approach than relying on outdated methods or guesswork alone.

At HeyNow Hi-Fi, Geoff and his analogue setup team utilise and recommend the WallyTools platform because achieving exceptional analogue performance begins long before the record starts spinning — it begins with precision setup and proper calibration.
